2026 Asian Journalism Forum

To promote professional exchange among journalists across Asia and to share insights into media development, the Foundation for Excellent Journalism Award has hosted the Asian Journalism Forum annually since 2013. Each year, the Forum welcomes outstanding journalists from across the region—including Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, China, and Hong Kong—for in-depth dialogue with their counterparts in Taiwan. Through panel discussions and seminars, participants engage with media professionals, communication scholars, students, and members of the public who are committed to advancing journalism. The forum has earned widespread recognition for fostering meaningful exchange and regional collaboration.
In a rapidly changing digital era, the news media industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has profoundly affected news production processes, storytelling practices, and journalistic ethics, while gradually reshaping the way newsrooms operate. However, the media industry is still in the process of understanding the long-term implications of AI, as well as the risks and opportunities it presents.
The 2026 Asian Journalism Forum, themed “Newsrooms in the Age of AI,” will bring together journalists, editors, media executives, and scholars from across Asia and Taiwan to share their experiences and perspectives on AI adoption, journalistic practice, and organizational transformation. Through cross-border dialogue and the exchange of diverse experiences, the forum aims to foster a more comprehensive understanding of how AI is reshaping journalism and to explore strategies for responding to the challenges and opportunities it creates.
To examine these issues in greater depth, the forum will feature six panel sessions covering a range of key topics, including the latest applications of AI in newsrooms, the impact of AI on news content and storytelling, the evolving role and skill sets of journalists, the balance between journalistic ethics and technological innovation, the opportunities and challenges facing small and medium-sized media organizations, and strategies for addressing copyright and content rights issues arising from the unauthorized use of journalistic content by technology platforms.
