2025 Asian Journalism Forum

To promote professional exchange among journalists across Asia and to share insights into media development, the Foundation for Excellent Journalism Award has hosted the Asian Journalism Forum annually since 2013. Each year, the Forum welcomes outstanding journalists from across the region—including Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, China, and Hong Kong—for in-depth dialogue with their counterparts in Taiwan. Through panel discussions and seminars, participants engage with media professionals, communication scholars, students, and members of the public who are committed to advancing journalism. The forum has earned widespread recognition for fostering meaningful exchange and regional collaboration.
The theme of the 2025 Asian Journalism Forum is “Journalism Confronts the Challenge of AI and Algorithms.” For two days and five major sessions, the Forum will examine the significant impact of platform algorithms on the news industry and the emerging opportunities and challenges posed by generative AI. Discussions will center around three key areas: news production and editorial decision-making, news distribution and media business models, and the decline of audience trust and engagement.
The Forum will also spotlight forward-looking strategies, such as methods for identifying trustworthy information, rebuilding public confidence in journalism, exploring alternative news aggregation platforms, and using AI tools to enhance the visibility and reach of quality reporting.
