Idealism or Self-interest?
Critical Views on International Volunteerism
When helping needy people in developing countries, can young volunteers also be a burden to local communities? Is international volunteerism a middle class vanity or a kind of idealism needing to be fulfilled?
Sam Lai left Taiwan to work at a refugee camp on the border of Thailand and Burma. Siegfried from Switzerland quit his banking job and works with children in Thailand.
